Chef Pierre Thiam has created an exotic and delectable degustation menu for the Cotton House featuring West-African inspired dishes with a focus on bright coloured ingredients, designed to be enjoyed as a discovery journey. The Senegalese born and raised Chef has been a spokesperson for African cuisine and its rich culinary history for many years, opening up 4 restaurants in the process, a catering company and speaking up about the valuable heritage of his region in many cookbooks, TV programs and competitions.
He has been awarded the Sunset Diaspora Prize for his contribution to the Culinary Arts of Senegal, the Development of Responsible Tourism Award by the African Travel Association, the Zimbabwe Chef Associations’ Medal, and the Julia Child Cookbook Award. He’s also been a Guest Chef at the United Nations Delegate Dining Room in New York several times.
The collaboration with the Cotton House includes a 5-course degustation menu served for dinner as anode to Senegalese cooking, as well as African-inspired tapas throughout the day.
The hotel, the focus of which has often been to become a melting pot for all kinds of cultures residing in Barcelona, wants to draw attention to the attractive selection of flavours African cuisine can bring to the table. The Cotton House prides itself in being a landmark in the city for the most curious travelers, and has already carried out two other pop-ups in the past couple of years. The first, in partnership with Chef Atul Kochar, concentrated on creating a well balanced mix of Indian spices and elements within an Occidental scope. The second, composed by Chef Davide Oldani, was intended as a modern take on Italian tradition, with a clear focus on the quality of the ingredients and on the beauty of a minimalistic cooking approach. The mix of both, together with this third emprise, highlight the passion-for-discovery spirit of the hotel and its interest in providing guests with a wide range of different experiences.
The colourful yet delicate dining experience will be accompanied by a subdued ambiance that evokes the region of West Africa. Large amounts of plush, vibrantly coloured pillows will set the scene, as well as table décor using materials such as straw and cotton.
The Cotton House Hotel Pop-Up Restaurant with Pierre Thiam will be open until 31st of July.
