In a fashion world mainly dominated by international names such as Armani, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, among others, we’re filled with pride when we hear that local Lebanese designers such as Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, and George Hobeika have come a long way and joined the ranks of foreign designers in the world of fashion luxury.
And if you had any doubt about this, rest assured that these designers’ shows at last week’s Paris Fashion Week cemented their status in the world of Haute Couture.
Take Elie Saab for example- the Lebanese master – who is known for his stunning evening dresses- was inspired by the golden palaces of Byzantium for his upcoming collection. You can visibly see firsthand, the gold threads which were used extensively in the empire line and ballerina dresses. The flawless models’ look were also accentuated by golden laurels in their hair and statement princess like cuffs on their wrists- a collection fit for a princess, don’t you think?
Over at Zuhair Murad– the designer who calls Jennifer Lopez and Chrissy Teigan as his loyal clients- showed off a cosmic-themed collection, complete with midnight hues and heavy embroidery on his gowns and jumpsuits. We were specifically in awe of the shooting star embroidery that graced several gowns and the fairytale -like star crowns that adorned the models’ hair.
George Hobeika – who received A LOT of fashion love in Cannes earlier this year – was inspired by the very British five o’clock tea mantra. Models flocked the runway in pale silk and guipure lace dresses which were intricately embellished with English garden floral appliques and other forms of embroidery.
These three designers have done Lebanon proud in the past week! And they can only continue to do so; we’ll be watching every step of the way. Stay tuned!
